What is Planetary Health?

Humans are increasingly interconnected to the environment, and this has implications for how changes in the environment impacts our health and quality of life. This realization of interdependence has spurned a new field: Planetary Health. Defined in The Lancet in 2015, Planetary Health is “the achievement of the highest attainable standard of health, wellbeing, and equity worldwide through judicious attention to the human systems… that shape the future of humanity and the Earth’s natural systems.”
