About Us

Physicians for Human Rights
Physicians for Human Rights (PHR) is an independent organization that uses medicine and science to stop mass atrocities and severe human rights violations against individuals.

We use our investigations and expertise to advocate for the:
  • Prevention of individual or small scale acts of violence from becoming mass atrocities
  • Protection of internationally-guaranteed rights of individuals and civilian populations
  • Prosecution of those who violate human rights

The Geisel student chapter of PHR is dedicated to advocacy and education about these issues, both domestically and internationally, and has focused this year on poverty alleviation, prisoner issues, primary care in the global underserved context, and homeless medicine.
Nathan Smith Society
The Nathan Smith Society, named for the founder of our medical school,  is a Dartmouth College student-led 100 year-old organization dedicated to creating out-of-classroom experiences for undergraduate students interested in a career in the health professions.  Among the activities we plan and execute are many that intersect with Geisel students and faculty.

We have partnered with the Geisel Physician for Human Rights group for the past 6 years in hosting the annual PHR conference.
